As a company, Greenvale are market leaders through sustainable procurement, technical innovation and operational efficiency, providing our customers with products of the highest quality. This is achieved by the selection of superior varieties of potatoes, continually developing our skills and fostering the commitment of our people, our grower base and our clients.
We are relentless in the investigation and implementation of new methods of operation in order to reduce our environmental impact and make a positive contribution to the communities in which we work. At all times, we strive to conduct our business ethically, with openness and integrity"
Environmental Policy and Management System
We know we have an important part to play in minimising climate change and so have implemented our very own environmental policy to clearly communicate our aims and targets with respect to reducing the varied environmental impacts that arise from our activities.
This pledge is delivered through our Environmental Management System, for which we are committed to attaining ISO14001 certification by 2010.
From the Field
Greenvale and our many growers produce natural and healthy potatoes grown with nature in mind. We seek to develop new varieties that require fewer inputs (such as nematicides, nitrogen and water), and are proud of our natural pest and disease resistant varieties - Vales Sovereign, Vales Everest and Lady Balfour. We lead by example in the adoption of reduced input farming systems such as Zynx, SOYL and trickle irrigation, which allows us to protect our natural habitat. Our farming operation represents a leading model of Integrated Crop Management.
Our growers are committed to monitoring and enhancing the natural environment, and we encourage them to undertake annual bird and insect counts with bodies such as RSPB and FWAG. We also promote the inclusion of wild flower field margins to protect and encourage wildlife, particularly in support of the "Operation Bumblebee" scheme.
To The Plate
Potato packing and processing is a high water consumption industry, but here at Greenvale, we have pioneered a new water recycling and treatment system which promises to reduce water consumption by at least 75%.
We have also signed up to the Federation House Commitment and successfully achieved our target to reduce water consumption by 20% through good water management.
Swancote Foods, our very own processing unit allows us to process our cooking grade potatoes internally, thus efficiently utilising and further reducing our waste streams.
We actively promote the practice of matching lorry space to orders, ensuring only full vehicles leave our sites, therefore minimising wasted space and avoiding unnecessary journeys.
Renewable Energy Initiatives
We are committed to a future of sustainable energy and are striving to become self sufficient. We are currently assessing renewable energy options available to us, including; Wind Turbines, Anaerobic Digestion, Solar Panels, Air Source Heat Pumps and LED Lighting. Planning permission for wind turbines is currently being sought through the appropriate channels.
Employee Safety
We take the safety of our people seriously. This is reflected by our continued investment in improving our safety processes across the group. We are members of the Royal Association for the Prevention of Accidents.
Employee Engagement
Greenvale recognises and values its employees. More importantly, we fully accept that a contented workforce will be a productive workforce. To this end we ensure open dialogue and mechanisms for consultation are always utilised.
All of these initiatives (and more), are underpinned by our Mission Statement and Core Values.
Training and Development
In order to facilitate continued excellence in what we do and to ensure effective succession planning, we invest heavily in both the personal and professional development of our people.
