Hull-based Jackson's Bakery has announced plans to invest £5.5m in expanding its Derringham Road site with a view to meeting increasing demand for its bread both at home and abroad.
The plans to erect two buildings to house new state-of-the-art equipment received conditional approval earlier this month by councillors on Hull City Council's planning committee.
MD James Watson said the project, which would create around 40 new jobs, still needed to be "rubber-stamped" by planning officers and funding was already in place.
"We are growing our business, both with existing and new customers at home and abroad, and in order to maintain this success story we need to expand to increase our capacity," he said.
The company currently exports bread to 29 different countries, as far afield as Lebanon and Hong Kong and employs 330 people.
In the past eight years Jackson's has invested more than £20m in its operations, which manufactures bread for sale to sandwich-makers, restaurants, coffee shops, distributors and retailers.
