New investment pushes Graham’s turnover past £40m

Independent Scottish firm Graham's The Family Dairy attributes its record 2009/10 turnover to acquisitions and brand development.

The firm's turnover for the year ending March 31, 2010 was £41,387,790 compared with £40m in 2009; pre-tax profits also rose from £820,959 to £1.05m in 2010.

Md Robert Graham (pictured) said: "We have made a significant investment in product innovation and developing the Graham's brand, which for the first time in its 71-year history now has UK-wide distribution."

Graham's employs more than 400 staff, and recently acquired Balmakeith-based Claymore Dairies and its ‘Highland Fresh' dairy product range; the firm is also investing heavily to overhaul its Bridge of Allen butter plant by the end of 2010.

New product lines for 2011 will include the first spreadable butter from a Scottish dairy, while Graham's says it made a "six figure investment" this year in branding and launches for its ‘conventional' milks, creams, butters and ice cream.

The firm supplies Sainsbury's Asda, Tesco, Somerfield (The Co-operative Group), Waitrose and Lidl as well as leading independents.
