Scottish vegetable processor expands
Scottish vegetable company R & K Drysdale (Drysdales) is spending a £647,647 government grant on extending its premises in a move that will create new employment opportunities.
Md Chris Keenan told Food Manufacture that the improvements will include a new processing, packing and storage building, refrigeration equipment and a grading line.
The funding was granted as part of the Scottish Executive's Food Processing, Marketing and Co-operation Scheme awards, and Keenan said: "We are delighted with this award which allows Drysdales to press ahead with a large scale upgrade and expansion of our operations."
Keenan said the award would create further job opportunities at Drysdales (although he could not specify numbers) as well as securing the long-term future for 140 existing staff.
Drysdales supplies British supermarkets with over 14,000 tonnes of vegetables a year, and claims to be the UK's largest Swede grower, supplying 33% of its consumption.
